NOTICE OF PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT TO THE ANAHEIM UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT GOVERNING BOARD PURSUANT TO EDUCATION CODE SECTION 5092
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT a vacancy occurred on the Board of Trustees of the Anaheim Union High School District for Trustee Area 5 on May 6, 2024, as a result of the passing of Anna L. Piercy. On June 13, 2024, the Board of Trustees provisionally appointed Ron Hoshi to fill this vacancy. The provisional appointment confers all powers and duties of a governing board member and shall become an effective appointment after 30 days through the next regularly scheduled election for governing board members on November 5, 2024, unless a petition calling for a special election, and containing a sufficient number of signatures of voters in Trustee Area 5, is filed in the office of the Orange County Superintendent of Schools, 200 Kalmus Drive, Costa Mesa, California, not later than July 13, 2024.

Anaheim Union High School District Welcomes New Trustee, Mr. Ron Hoshi, for Trustee Area 5
Anaheim, CA – The Anaheim Union High School District is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Ron Hoshi to the AUHSD Board of Trustees representing Trustee Area 5. With a career spanning over four decades in education, Mr. Hoshi brings a wealth of experience and a dedicated vision to the Board, especially at a time when strategic leadership is crucial.
AUHSD Board President, Annemarie Randle-Trejo, expressed her enthusiasm for Mr. Hoshi's appointment, stating, "Mr. Hoshi exemplifies the candidate that we need. We're going through some very tough times budget-wise and need a leader who understands our District. Mr. Hoshi has demonstrated profound knowledge about our district, knowing where we've been and where we're headed."
Mr. Hoshi’s career in education is marked by his steadfast commitment to enhancing student engagement and achievement. He has served in various capacities including teacher, activities director, coach, and administrator within the District. His approach is deeply rooted in the 'whole child' philosophy, aimed at fostering not just academic excellence but also the personal and emotional growth of each student.
"I am committed to continuing the innovative work with the 5C's, the Pledge, partnering with ROP, AIME, Dual Enrollment, and the entire Career Preparedness Systems Framework that makes our District a national model," said Mr. Hoshi. His dedication to the District is also evident in his efforts to increase community involvement through partnerships and programs that enhance educational outcomes for all students, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds.
As a longtime resident of Cypress and a recognized leader in the community, Mr. Hoshi's experience as a principal and his service in various groups have equipped him with the skills necessary to address the challenges of public school funding. He aims to foster greater community support through enhanced partnerships and additional resources.
Mr. Hoshi also emphasized the importance of empowering student voices. "My work with the Student Ambassador program has been incredibly rewarding, seeing firsthand the positive changes on campuses. I am eager to further amplify the youth voice in our District," he noted.
As Mr. Hoshi steps into his new role, he brings a commitment to not only continue his legacy of impactful leadership but to also serve as a beacon of inspiration and support for every student within the Anaheim Union High School District.

At a special meeting on June 11, 2024, the Board of Trustees interviewed candidates for the provisional appointment to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 5. AUHSD Board Solicits Applications for Vacant Seat
ANAHEIM, CA -- The Anaheim Union High School District will make a provisional appointment to fill a vacancy stemming from the passing of Mrs. Anna Piercy, and is soliciting applications from the public to fill her unexpired term. The appointee will serve through the November 2024 general election.
Following the vacancy, the options before the Board were to call for a special election or make the provisional appointment. After discussion, board members decided to make the appointment.
The Board invites those interested in either seeking the appointment or making a nomination for the appointment to contact Ms. Christina Bevins in the Superintendent’s Office by 4:00 p.m. on May 24, 2024. Ms. Bevins can be reached at (714) 999-5698. Anyone who expresses interest in the appointment after the 4:00 p.m. deadline will not be considered.
Applicants must be registered voters and reside within Trustee Area 5 of the Anaheim Union High School District. The Trustee Area map may be found on the District’s website (www.auhsd.us) by selecting TRUSTEE AREA MAP under the BOARD tab. Candidates may not be employed by the Anaheim Union High School District while serving on the board.
On May 28, 2024, information packets will be sent to those who have expressed an interest in filling the vacancy. Completed candidate information packets, including all supporting documentation, must be returned to Ms. Bevins at the District Campus no later than 4:00 p.m. on June 5, 2024. On June 6, 2024, a public hearing to solicit input on candidates will be conducted. A special Board meeting to interview candidates for the provisional appointment will be held at 5 p.m. on June 11, 2024; the appointment will be made at the regular meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 13, 2024.
The Board is governed by a July 5, 2024, deadline for making the provisional appointment.
The five-member Board of Trustees sets the policies that guide the Anaheim Union High School District and establishes its operating budget. The Board generally meets once every month on a Thursday. Closed session begins mid-afternoon and the open, public meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of the District Campus.
